Born in Indonesia in 1953 to a Canadian mother and an American father working in the oil and gas industry, Mahaffey spent her early years living in Indonesia, Nigeria and the United Kingdom. When she was sixteen, her family relocated to Austin, Texas, where she graduated high school and later earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from the University of Texas at Austin in 1975.
Mahaffey began her television career in 1979 with a role on the NBC daytime soap opera The Doctors, appearing in more than 100 episodes over two years. Her work on the show earned her a Daytime Emmy Award nomination.
In the late ‘80s and early ‘90s, Mahaffey made guest appearances on shows including Newhart, Cheers and Seinfeld. In 1991, she landed a recurring role on the CBS drama Northern Exposure, winning a Primetime Emmy Award in 1992 for her performance as the wife of Adam Arkin's character.

The ensemble cast included Hollywood legend John Forsythe, future Two and a Half Men star Holland Taylor, Peter MacNicol - later of Ally McBeal, a pre-Frasier David Hyde Pierce, and a very young Joseph Gordon-Levitt. In 2006, Mahaffey had a recurring role in the third season of Desperate Housewives, playing Alma Hodge, the first wife of Orson Hodge (Kyle MacLachlan) and the former daughter-in-law of Gloria Hodge (Dixie Carter). Later, Mahaffey had recurring roles on United States of Tara, Glee, Devious Maids, and guest spots on shows including Boston Legal, Hannah Montana and Raising Hope.
Mahaffey appeared in fourteen episodes of Young Sheldon, starting with the Pilot episode, as Victoria MacElroy, an English teacher who taught Sheldon and Georgie. CBS renews 'Georgie and Mandy' for second season
CBS has renewed the Young Sheldon spin-off Georgie and Mandy’s First Marriage for a second season.
The multi-camera comedy stars Montana Jordan and Emily Osment as the titular newlyweds Georgie and Mandy, who have moved in with Mandy’s parents, Jim and Audrey (played by Will Sasso and Rachel Bay Jones), along with their daughter, CeeCee. Several Young Sheldon stars have made guest appearances on the show, including Zoe Perry as Mary, Raegan Revord as Missy, Annie Potts as Meemaw, Craig T. Nelson as Dale, and most recently Matt Hobby as Pastor Jeff. Lance Barber is set to reprise his role as George Cooper in an upcoming episode.

Lance Barber to return as George Sr. on Georgie & Mandy's First Marriage
Lance Barber is set to reprise his role as George Sr. in an upcoming episode of the Young Sheldon spin-off Georgie and Mandy’s First Marriage.
Barber’s return was confirmed by the show’s producers during a press panel ahead of its mid-season premiere. An air date for the episode has not yet been announced.
Speaking at the event, executive producer Steve Holland shared that Georgie will have a dream featuring his father. “Georgie is thinking about his dad, and he’s worried that his dad might be disappointed in him”, explained Holland. The idea to have George appear in a dream came from a conversation with series creator Chuck Lorre, who had mentioned he still has dreams where his late father visits him.
Executive producer Steve Molaro also shared a picture on Instagram from the editing of Georgie and Mandy’s First Marriage. The picture shows Molaro’s feet propped up in front of a screen featuring Lance Barber and Montana Jordan as George and Georgie, together again at the familiar kitchen table from Young Sheldon.
In the final season of Young Sheldon, George Sr. passed away suddenly in the twelfth episode, “A New Home and a Traditional Texas Torture”, after suffering a heart attack. He had been celebrating the news of a job offer in Houston, with Mary eagerly supporting him in moving the family for the opportunity. George’s memorial service was featured in the show’s penultimate episode, “Funeral”. Before Young Sheldon, the death of Sheldon’s dad during his teenage years had been established on The Big Bang Theory.
Several Young Sheldon actors have already reprised their roles on Georgie and Mandy’s First Marriage. Annie Potts, Zoe Perry and Raegan Revord have each appeared in two episodes as Meemaw, Mary and Missy, respectively. Craig T. Nelson guest starred in a Thanksgiving episode as Meemaw’s boyfriend, Dale. Most recently, Sarah Baker returned as Ms. Hutchins, the school librarian, and Matt Hobby is set to reprise his role as Pastor Jeff later this month.
Georgie and Mandy’s First Marriage has just returned from its mid-season hiatus with new episodes airing Thursday at 8/7c on CBS, in Young Sheldon’s old time slot. The show has received a full-season order from the network, but has not yet been renewed for a second season.
