Lance Barber to return as George Sr. on Georgie & Mandy's First Marriage
Lance Barber is set to reprise his role as George Sr. in an upcoming episode of the Young Sheldon spin-off Georgie and Mandy’s First Marriage.
Barber’s return was confirmed by the show’s producers during a press panel ahead of its mid-season premiere. An air date for the episode has not yet been announced.
Speaking at the event, executive producer Steve Holland shared that Georgie will have a dream featuring his father. “Georgie is thinking about his dad, and he’s worried that his dad might be disappointed in him”, explained Holland. The idea to have George appear in a dream came from a conversation with series creator Chuck Lorre, who had mentioned he still has dreams where his late father visits him.
Executive producer Steve Molaro also shared a picture on Instagram from the editing of Georgie and Mandy’s First Marriage. The picture shows Molaro’s feet propped up in front of a screen featuring Lance Barber and Montana Jordan as George and Georgie, together again at the familiar kitchen table from Young Sheldon.
In the final season of Young Sheldon, George Sr. passed away suddenly in the twelfth episode, “A New Home and a Traditional Texas Torture”, after suffering a heart attack. He had been celebrating the news of a job offer in Houston, with Mary eagerly supporting him in moving the family for the opportunity. George’s memorial service was featured in the show’s penultimate episode, “Funeral”. Before Young Sheldon, the death of Sheldon’s dad during his teenage years had been established on The Big Bang Theory.
Several Young Sheldon actors have already reprised their roles on Georgie and Mandy’s First Marriage. Annie Potts, Zoe Perry and Raegan Revord have each appeared in two episodes as Meemaw, Mary and Missy, respectively. Craig T. Nelson guest starred in a Thanksgiving episode as Meemaw’s boyfriend, Dale. Most recently, Sarah Baker returned as Ms. Hutchins, the school librarian, and Matt Hobby is set to reprise his role as Pastor Jeff later this month.
Georgie and Mandy’s First Marriage has just returned from its mid-season hiatus with new episodes airing Thursday at 8/7c on CBS, in Young Sheldon’s old time slot. The show has received a full-season order from the network, but has not yet been renewed for a second season.
