Bob Newhart is an American stand-up comedian and actor known for his deadpan delivery and slight stammer. Newhart first came to fame in the 1960s with his comedy album, The Button-Down Mind of Bob Newhart.
As an actor he is best known for his long-running sitcoms The Bob Newhart Show and Newhart in the 1970s and '80s. In recent years, Newhart has made guest appearances on shows including ER, Desperate Housewives, NCIS, and The Big Bang Theory.
Bob Newhart won the first Emmy award of his five-decade career for his appearance as Arthur Jeffries, a.k.a. Professor Proton, in The Big Bang Theory episode "The Proton Resurgence".
On the big screen, Newhart has appeared in films including Catch-22, The Librarian, Legally Blonde 2: Red, White & Blonde, Elf, and Horrible Bosses.
